Urban Landscapes
Conceived
as a series of paintings, but growing to include photography and
collage, this project is concerned with conveying the exhilaration of
travelling at speed through urban landscapes. Particularly emotive at
twilight, the world seems full of endless possibilities. The night is
young, as they say, and the thrill of the unknown and myth of the
future beckon.
In the end, the concrete passage of
the urban rollercoaster that rises above normal road, or sinks us
below, ultimately fails us with its inability to deliver utopian
values, through traffic jams and pollution while maintaining a
monotonous and purely functional generic appearance. What fascinates me
is the way these environments we pass through are overlooked and go
unnoticed, but
contain such stillness and decaying beauty.
